Video Games !
In past, when you utter these 2 words, what is the first reaction of your parents ? 'shut up and do your homework first' !!!
Yes they can annoy any parent on planet. Only the most laziest and carefree person used to play games whole day. It was actually becoming a disease !
However times have changed rapidly over past few years and 'video games' are not JUST 'video games' anymore. They have evolved more quickly then anything on earth. Terms like anti-aliasing, shaders, real time lighting, tone mapping, ambient occlusion, stereoscopic 3D etc were non-existent in the past.
Gone are those days ! They have come up a long way. With ever growing technology, games are getting better and close to real world. Devs are leaving no stones unturned to make their game, best looking in the market with features as close to real world as possible. Gaming is not just for fun or pleasure, its becoming a career option too. Online Mutiplayer feature is the biggest achievement. With new technology comes new features in games. One such technology which is going to produced a stir in the industry in what today we are going to discuss.

Euclideon
A small group is working on something which can revolutionize the way games look. Above video covers almost everything which we need to know what this new technology is all about.
Currently, all the video games have objects and 3D environments are made up of polygons. Lots of polygons. Devs are trying their best to add as many polygons  as possible to make a much more detailed object without compromising on performance of the game. They have introduced many new engines which can efficiently do so to make games look much more crispier and better detailed. Recent examples are CRYSIS 2 and Battlefield 3.They have really pushed the limits to give us a jaw dropping visual experience.

Modern Warfare 2 (look at the edges in vegetation)

They have certainly improved a lot ! But still we expect more from every new game.

All this could change if these guys get it right. What actually they are developing is a whole new way to look at things. No more polygons ! Instead, they are making things out of atoms ! now isn't that a much logical approach ?
You can just imagine the amount of clarity which we could get. Literal meaning of virtual reality can be established. Earlier they were criticized coz of staggering amount of power required for such an operation. Imagine rendering of such a model made up of atoms. Surely it would require next gen processor to even start the game. 1 year later, they have emerged again. As you can see in video, they have actually converted polygons into small point sized atoms and made an object from it with almost unlimited polygon atoms. If it comes out as they claim it, Graphics will be better to 100,000 times the current games! Yes you have read it correctly !
They do claim that it is running fine (frame rate wise) on their system, still it will be interesting to see how much load it will put on current gen CPUs and GPUs. Performance will be one major issue that may topple this technology. But we hope for the best and prepare ourselves to witness a revolution in gaming and animation industry.

Wonder how Crysis 3 will look like !!!
